Olagoke Phillips - Technical Graduate, Grain LNG
I'm currently working as a Commissioning Engineer and where I see my role fitting in to National Grid is by delivering this new terminal, to allow us to be able to deliver 20% of the UK gas demand, ensuring the security of supply of UK gas now and for the future.
The best bit about my job is that one day I could be working on the plant dealing with live operational issues and the next day in the office running focus groups and workshops for the employee survey.
I see myself in the next five years being a chartered chemical engineer where I would have gained the right key skills in my development of my career. I see myself having had the opportunity to work at Grain to develop the key technical and leadership skills to move into other areas of National Grid.
Coming in as a graduate, management is there to support you, in ensuring that they challenge you and ensure you take ownership and responsibility of key projects which are critical to business operations. The way National Grid also supports you is through the mentoring scheme where you have technical mentors and also mentors that are there to help you develop your career. I believe that's key in any area.
If I had a friend that wanted to come and work for National Grid I'd tell them that this is a large organisation with so much growth and so much opportunity and if you are ambitious this is the right business for you.
