Meet our People

Javid Khan - Group Strategy Manager

Since leaving the graduate scheme I spent a further two or three years working in operations where I gained a lot of man-management and operational type experience. Following on from that I moved to a more central asset management type function where I worked in investment strategy and helped out in the price control review. After around a couple of years in that I was successful in becoming the executive assistant for a National Grid board member which let me to get a role in corporate strategy, working as group strategy manager.

One of the challenges that I faced was having to learn about the US side of the business when I was working in gas distribution in a very short space of time. But the advantage I had was that I was able to spend quite a bit of time working out in the US, learning first hand so that really helped.

The thing that keeps me at National Grid is really the amount of change the organisation has gone through so when you look back over the last 10 years we've merged with organisations, we've acquired others, we've sold off others and there's been a tremendous amount of activity over the last decade. And certainly when I look forward there's quite an ambitious agenda ahead of me and every year is different and for me, that excitement keeps me here at National Grid.

What I'd like to do next I guess, is really just carry on developing my leadership capabilities, and continue in adding to my skill base and having the opportunity to experience new things. Be it in a new department, perhaps work out in the US. I think there are unlimited possibilities here at National Grid which is a great thing so I don't think I'll be stuck for choice really.
